Growing the Grassroots Fundraiser: A Big Win
Thanks to you and so many others, Central Valley Matters raised $161,231 in its June 10 fundraiser to support three Central Valley grassroots groups in hiring local bilingual outreach workers. The three groups — Valley Forward, Dolores Huerta Foundation, and Valley Voices — use relational organizing to foster civic engagement among underserved residents in Fresno, Kern and Kings Counties. These counties are located in Congressional District 21 where Democrats lost a congressional seat last year by a razor-thin margin. Valley Voices staff have been educating their neighbors about COVID-19 vaccinations and clinics; the Dolores Huerta Foundation has been canvassing on redistricting to get better representation in local government; and Valley Forward is working on the upcoming recall election.
The generous contributions to our fundraiser will go a long way in supporting the groups to engage their communities. But this work won't be finished in a summer or even in an election cycle. As our partners, you may understand, as we do, that supporting grassroots groups is a proven and crucial strategy for taking back our democracy. The funds we raise enable us to “pass the mic” to CD21 voters to ensure their voices are heard across the state and nationally.
You, your friends and family can still donate to reach our fully funded goal of $232,300.
