An update on our successful fundraiser recognizing the hard working Californians who live in the Central Valley and produce much of the food that graces our Thanksgiving tables. We were lucky to have three speakers working in their communities to let us know what has happened since our last event.
Valley Voices Meets the Community Where They Are
On a typical week, you’ll find the Valley Voices (VV) team at the “Remate” swap meet in Hanford, CA, a major gathering place for Latino residents in Kings County. It’s here that they connect with their neighbors while they are shopping or working. At the heart of Valley Voices’ work is this philosophy of community organizing. As Recall Vote Looms, Valley Forward Will Knock on Doors
Valley Forward is kicking into gear fast now that the election to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom has been moved up to Sept. 14. The organization, which is focusing on the rural Fresno communities where Rep. Valadao outperformed TJ Cox in 2020, planned to have 15 bilingual canvassers in place early this month to increase awareness of the recall election and let residents know why their vote matters…
Growing the Grassroots Fundraiser: A Big Win
Central Valley Matters raised $161,231 in its June 10 fundraiser to support three Central Valley grassroots groups in hiring local bilingual outreach workers. The three groups — Valley Forward, Dolores Huerta Foundation, and Valley Voices — use relational organizing to foster civic engagement among underserved residents in Fresno, Kern and Kings Counties.
